Transfer FAQs

Will my website go down during the transfer?

No. Your website will remain online throughout the transfer process. DNS settings are preserved during transfers, so there's no downtime.

How long does a transfer take?

Domain transfers typically take 5-7 days to complete. However, if you confirm the transfer via email quickly, it can be completed faster. Some registrars may take longer to release the domain.

What domains cannot be transferred?

The following domains cannot be transferred:

  • Domains registered or renewed within the last 60 days
  • Domains that are locked
  • Domains under dispute or legal hold
  • Domains about to expire (less than 15 days)
What is an EPP/Authorization code?

An EPP (Extensible Provisioning Protocol) code, also known as an Auth code or Transfer Key, is a unique password that authorizes the transfer of your domain to a new registrar. This code protects against unauthorized transfers and must be obtained from your current registrar.

What happens to my remaining registration time?

When you transfer a domain, you keep all your remaining registration time. Additionally, most transfers add one year to your current expiration date. For example, if your domain expires in 6 months, after transfer it will expire in 1 year and 6 months.

Can I cancel a transfer?

Yes, you can cancel a transfer while it's in progress by not responding to confirmation emails or by contacting your current registrar to reject the transfer. Once completed, transfers cannot be reversed.
